Project CHARTS is INTERREG IVC programme Regional Initiative Project under Priority 2 “Environment and risk prevention”, sub-theme “Cultural Heritage and landscape”, duration from Jan, 2012 – June, 2014.
CHARTS focuses on the role of culture and heritage in the formulation and delivery of added-value to regional strategies for sustainable tourism development and integration into local, regional, national and EU policies. Partners will share experience on how improved management of cultural tourism destinations contribute to protection and enhancement of cultural heritage & landscape, as well as sustainable regional development policies, especially in relation to challenges of climate change and the economic crisis.

Vidzeme seaside stands out with picturesque landscapes and a large variety of nature objects. There are high sand dunes and sandstone cliffs, as well as a stony beach and the peculiar randu or seaside meadows. You will cross several unique nature territories – Seaside Nature Park, Northern Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve, the most beautiful rivers in Latvia and districts with their own unique cultural heritage. Vidzeme offers a great atmosphere for both those, who are fond of popular recreation sites, and those looking for remote beaches or fishermen villages. Everyone taking the exciting cycling tour will find an accommodation and places to eat in one of the cosy guest houses, hotels or camping sites.
Smiltene Region Tourism Information Centre, in cooperation with the local entrepreneurs have prepared the Region's guide for 2013. This year the emphasis has been placed on countryside tourism and the offers of craftsmen.
The Guide includes information about the new tourism objects, as well as the new offers in the existing objects. The expected sports, culture and tourism event dates have also been published. In the new Guide you will fing three-day routes with a possibility to explore Smiltene Region, as well as useful information about accommodation and catering in the Region.
