Silver Cyclists consortium met in Madrid

The Silver Cyclists project reached the half way point in the month of April with a second project meeting. Hosted by the Spanish Railways Foundation in Madrid on April 7th-8th, partners from 7 different European countries attended this fruitful meeting in order to monitor the project implementation. The meeting focused on the work developed so far with a special look into the next steps.

During the ITB Berlin 2016, the world’s leading tourism trade fair, the ECF organized a panel discussion on an increasingly important topic when it comes to bike tourism: ‘Cycling for all’ or how cycle tourism has moved into the mainstream and is now appealing to wide target groups.  Below is a little summary of what was said.

The Silver Cyclists’ project website has been launched to disseminate this EU-funded initiative’s outputs, main objectives, activities, partnership composition and latest news. Vidzeme Tourism Association is one of the partners of this EU-funded project.

EuroVelo routes featured prominently again in this year’s European Greenways Award.  This year the awards were held on 16th October in Namur, Belgium.  In total, seven greenways from Germany, Belgium, Spain, United Kingdom and Czech Republic were recognised as best practices examples.

For the first time ever, a Latvian Greenway (Limbaži-lake Katvaru) was also nominated for the prestigeous award.

The Silver Cyclists project has officially been launched in September, aiming at increasing the number of seniors undertaking cycling holidays both domestically as well as to other European destinations.

Successful EuroVelo 13 project draws to a close

The end of September marked the close of the eighteen-month EuroVelo 13 project, which has involved partners in eight countries along the northern half of the Iron Curtain Trail.  The partners can look back on some notable achievements, including a completed EuroVelo13.com website and brand new cycle tourism package offers.

Vidzeme Tourism Association has been a partner in this project and, together with Latvian Tourism Development Agency, created several packages along the EuroVelo 13 route in Latvia. Also, a new European Commission project on EuroVelo 13 (EV13ICTE) has begun on September 19, and will last for 18 month. The main focus in the project will be the development of a new mobile application for EuroVelo 13 route.
