The Latvian Presidency of the European Union ended in Riga with the hosting of the TEN-T Days to discuss the latest developments and opportunities for the trans-European transportation network. European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN) has opened a contest for nomination ‘Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism 2015’ Award to all tourism destinations Europe-wide for the benefit of destinations, communities, businesses, citizens and visitors.

Opening of new crossing in Latvia coincides with EuroVelo 13 project meeting

The third and final project meeting for the EuroVelo 13 project took place at the beginning of May in Riga, Latvia.  The hosts used the arrival of the transnational partners to hold a successful press conference and arranged for the official opening of a beautiful new cycling and walking bridge in the village of Carnikava just to the north of the capital.

Vidzeme Tourism Association, partner of the Consortia led by the European GreenWays Association, will participate in a new European Commission project GreenWays Outdoors. The project is expected to start in summer 2015 and will last for 18 months. VTA's project budget is EUR 28 800, and members from several Northern Latvia municipalities that have former railway lines traversing their territorries have already shown great interest to take part.

Although in the implementation of the project there was no large investment work or installation of expensive equipment, the development process of project has brought invaluable experience, as well as strengthened cooperation and friendship between the Russian, Estonian and Latvian project partners.

In the charming northern Latvian town of Limbaži, in addition to the other local landmarks and attractions, it is recommended to visit the Old Town Hall (Vecais Rātsnams), where is the Silver Museum, featuring works by the famous Latvian silver-smith Oļegs Auzers.
