With a help of the CentralBalticCycling Project, a new EuroVelo 13 Cycling Route “Iron Curtain Trail”, which is more than 560 km long in Latvia, has been developed. Also, a new National River Cycling Route, which is more than 400 km long in Latvia, has been developed. During this summer four enjoyable cycling tours took a place in Northern Latvia and the new routes has been tested by more than 150 cycling enthusiasts.

The first two events were held in Vidzeme coastline at the end of May. Two days journey started in capital of Latvia-Riga and finished in Salacgrīva, near Latvia-Estonia border. Participants of the tour enjoyed part of new EuroVelo 13 Cycling Route – picturesque landscapes and nature as well as unique cultural heritage. Third cycling tour was organized in the middle of summer as a part of new National River Cycling Route along Daugava River. Summer Cycling adventure ended with memorable and romantic local Castle and Manor Route. The participants of the tour were delighted with the overall experience and appreciated the progress that has been made to improve the cycling infrastructure in the region.

During the summer season 2013 major infrastructure activities within the CBC project have been implemented – more than 600 signs have been set-up as well as 16 bicycle parking stands and 12 information stands. Various activities have been carried out to promote Latvia and Vidzeme as a joint tourism destination, especially for the cyclists.

Vidzeme region welcomes you to enjoy its beautiful nature and rich cultural offer!
